Crème Caramel or Caramel pudding is a custard dessert served in many parts of the world. It has different names like Leche Flan, Caramel Custard, Flan de Cuba, Copa Lolita among others. It is made out of eggs, evaporated and condensed milk with sweet and soft caramel on top. There are many different varieties where some countries mix it with different ingredients such as cinnamon, coconut, ice cream etc. It is different from Crème Brulee which is also a custard dessert that has a hard caramel top.
This delicious dessert can be found anywhere in the world with different variations. In the Philippines, the Leche Flan is influenced by the Spanish dish called Flan de Leche or Milk Flan. This version is heavier than the usual Flan de Leche. It is often steamed than baked. The steamed dish makes it more moist than the baked one. This is a staple and one of the favorite desserts served in parties or any other celebratory feasts.
